Interactive e-Book for Autistic Children

Autism Spectrum Disorder is a complex neurological, social and communication disorder that affects the way individuals interact with the world. The aim of this major project is to use the digital platform to design and develop an interactive e-Book with games for Autistic children. The topic has been selected due to its high relevance to the ever growing field of digital design.

Technology used by children with Autism are more engaged with electronic media than any other activity, most notably television and movies with animated programs preferred. Interactive e-Books are increasingly relevant as current research is citing more and more benefits into technology in regards to helping and managing autistic behaviours. For example, previous research conducted has revealed that children with Autism Spectrum Disorders (ASD) spend time with visual digital media more than the average child. This therefore suggests that making more digital platforms widely accessible could be successful in reinforcing an educational environment.

The focus of the project is to provide a fun learning experience. The e-Book uses sound, drag and drop features which enhances the child’s experience. The e-Book game focuses on planets, shapes and emotion.
