Mobile Application Aiding the Physiotherapy of Users With a Range of Injuries or Conditions

As of right now, there is no ideal way for patients who have suffered from injuries such as a torn Anterior Cruciate Ligament(ACL) to track their workouts and recovery progress during Physiotherapy. The existing mobile applications that were identified in the project research act as guides on how to perform exercises and are limited in availability. Recovery from injuries such as a torn ACL requires a great deal of commitment and motivation from the patient if they wish to regain their mobility, strength and range of motion after undergoing reconstruction surgery. Close exposure to such a patient lead to the incentive to design a mobile app solution that incorporates the everyday needs of a physiotherapy patient.

In the early stages of the project, the idea was to design an application which would benefit both patients and specialists. Research indicated that there are too many allegations on the effectiveness of health applications and lack of regulating bodies as well as the readiness to implement solutions in a professional environment.  As a result, the projects concentrates on the needs of the patients instead and created the opportunity to incorporate features that would prove more useful to a focused target audience whilst allowing the artefact to be a viable business solution.

User testing was conducted at three stages throughout the project to identify their needs, incorporate their feedback on the design and branding of the application and test its usability and success during the prototyping phase.
