Using 3D & VR Technology to Immerse, Entertain and Inform Users About Natural History
Summary - The aim and objectives of my project was to design and deliver an innovative 3D 360-degree immersive dinosaur experience for the Natural History Museum. The purpose was to entertain and inform users about dinosaurs via a guided tour around the Museum hall, which would target ’Tourists’ and ‘Families’ as these were the main visitors that the museum attracted.
The motivation for my project stemmed from the Museum lacking user interaction and immersion, as users are bounded by ropes, glass enclosures and limited to skeleton artefacts of dinosaurs. Therefore, with my artefact I planned on bringing both technological innovation and history together to create an immersive and informative experience for users. Using ‘Maya’ and a plugin called ‘Domemaster VR’ I was able to achieve my desired artefact, which allowed users to explore the environment through dictating the viewpoint of the camera, giving them a sense of interaction and virtual presence.
